Cecile Davis Craig

January 14, 1924 — May 25, 2013

Cecile Davis Craig, 89, died May 25, 2013 at her home in Cleveland, TN, of sudden natural causes. She was born on January 14, 1924 to U.S.N. Commander Wilson Hempfield Harrington and Felicie Suzbielle Harrington. Cecile and her two older brothers were raised and educated in New York City. Cecile?s life was a testimony to the importance of family, integrity, duty, and compassion for those in need. Married in 1939 to Kenneth James Davis, Sr., Cecile became a mother of five and a second mother to many other children throughout her life. Ken?s career moved their family from New York City to Kansas City, MO and then to Doraville, GA, where Cecile?s civic spirit led to her election as its first woman city council member. Her professional career included management positions in the Internal Revenue Service Atlanta Regional Office, Liberty Mutual Insurance in Atlanta, and The Chattanooga, TN office of Alexander and Alexander from which she retired in 1985. Cecile was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Albert Harrington and Jean Harrington and in 1977 her husband, Ken. She is survived by her loving second husband, Thomas D. Craig of Cleveland, TN; devoted children, Richard J. Davis and wife, Martha of Lavonia, GA, Kenneth J. Davis, Jr. and wife, Gayle of Toccoa, GA, Glenn A. Davis and wife, Jean of Sautee, GA, Diane Davis White and husband, Jim of Beaufort, SC and Gail Davis Federer and husband, Bruce of Cumming, GA; as well as nine grandchildren and scores of great-grandchildren; extended family, and friends throughout the United States. Cecile was deeply loved and will be sorely missed by all whose lives she graced with her wit, wisdom, kindness, vibrancy, and determination to do what was right. The family plans a celebration of life later this year and invites all who wish to share remembrances of Cecile on line to do so. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in memory of Cecile Davis Craig be made to a children?s support charity of your choice.
