Gene Trewhitt, 79, a resident of Cleveland, passed away Thursday, November 22, 2012 in a Chattanooga hospital. Mr. Trewhitt attended White Oak Baptist Church. He had taught at Wooten School prior to his military service. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving in Korea. He was a former constable with the Bradley County Sheriff?s Department. Gene was with the Cleveland Fire Department for 35 years where he served as assistant chief. He owned and operated Trewhitt Fence Company. He was a member of the Cleveland Masonic Lodge # 134 F&AM and was also a member of the American Legion Post 81. Mr. Trewhitt was the son of the late Walter C. Trewhitt and Vesta V. York Trewhitt and was also preceded in death by his wife of 43 ½ years, Mary L. Trewhitt. Survivors include his children and their spouses: Lisa and Dean Earby, Samuel Eugene and Shere Trewhitt, Cathy and Jim Randolph, and Susan and Larry Carter all of Cleveland; seven grandchildren: Jenny and Matt Hoffman of Cleveland, Chris and Beverly Randolph of Hixson, Daniel Randolph, Skye Lane, Gabby Earby, Megan Craig, and Adam Trewhitt all of Cleveland; two great-grandchildren: Kylee Hoffman and Taylor Hoffman; one sister, Martha McClanahan and husband, Joe of Cleveland; one niece, Kim Peters of Knoxville, TN. Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, November 25, 2012 in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home with Dr. Jay McCluskey officiating. Interment will follow in Tasso Cemetery with Minister Steve Hall officiating. Military honors will follow. Members of the Cleveland Fire Department will serve as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be the former co-workers from the Cleveland Fire Department #1 hall. A white dove release ceremony will conclude the service. His family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Saturday, November 24, 2012 at the funeral home.
