Mitchell Keith Shoemaker, 64, a lifelong resident of Calhoun, passed away Thursday, November 29, 2012 in an Athens hospital. He was a member of Calhoun First Baptist Church. He was the president of his Junior and Senior Class at Calhoun High School and was an accomplished player of basketball and baseball. He was a veteran of the United States Army. Mr. Shoemaker was preceded in death by his fathers: Ellis Ray Shoemaker, Jr., and Walter Green. He is survived by his wife, Jennifer Lynn Cope Shoemaker of Calhoun; mother, Helen Bolen Green of Calhoun; two children: Brian Keith Shoemaker and wife, Amy, and Mitchell Todd Shoemaker and wife, Tina all of Cleveland; four grandchildren: Jack and Alex Shoemaker and Ashley and Clay Shoemaker; one brother: Craig Green and wife, Sharon Green and sister: Kay Shoemaker Burns and husband, Charlie Burns all of Cleveland; uncle and aunt; Charles and Carolyn Bolen; aunt: Doris Johnson and several very special cousins and several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be held at 7:00 p.m. Monday, December 3, 2012 in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home with Reverend Kevin Cheathem officiating. Interment will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 4, 2012 at Sunset Memorial Gardens with a white dove release ceremony concluding the service. Pallbearers will be Johnny Renner, Royce McBride, Gary Barham, Jerry Dunn, Ronnie Pruitt, Lynn Gober and Mark Johnson. Honorary Pallbearers will be Danny Long, Wes Shamblin, Bill Long, Willie Jenkins, David Jenkins and Reverend Ron Sorah. His family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday, December 3, 2012 at the funeral home prior to the service. The family suggests memorials be made to the charity of your choice.
