Roy Paul Elkins

Roy Paul Elkins, 90, a lifelong resident of Bradley County, passed away Thursday, September 13, 2012. He retired from Bowater and later worked at Wal-Mart as a greeter. Roy Paul was a veteran of the United Sates Army having served during World War II. He was a member of Big Spring Baptist Church where he served faithfully as a deacon for over 55 years. He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Maggie Elkins; parents, Ed and Bessie Elkins, Sr.; and two brothers, Ed Elkins, Jr. and Dennis Elkins. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Dale and Dana Elkins; grandson, Eric Elkins; two great granddaughters, Sydney Elkins and Skylar Elkins; sister and best friend, Bonnie Foster of Lewes, DE; and several nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 16, 2012 at Hilcrest Memorial Gardens with the Reverend Joe Brooks and Larry Puckett officiating. Roy Willhoit, Gene Hysinger, David Robinson, Johnny Baker, Kevin Davenport and Tim Davenport will serve as pallbearers. A white dove release ceremony will conclude the service. His family will receive friends on Saturday from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at Ralph Buckner Funeral Home.
