C L Dixon

Reverend C.L. Dixon, 89, a resident of Cleveland, passed away Friday, May 4, 2012, in a Chattanooga healthcare facility. He was a member of the North Cleveland Church of God. Reverend C. L. Dixon was born November 22, 1922, into a family of five to Bascom Thomas Dixon and Ellavee (Stanley) Dixon. Following a severe bout of pneumonia at the age of 13, he was given up to die with no hope of medical intervention. But the Great Healer intervened, knowing that he had a greater purpose. He served his country in World War II as a Sergeant in the 573rd Anti-Aircraft Artillery Self-Propelled in France, Belgium, Holland, and Germany. He returned from the war and married the love of his life, Lucille (Geren) Dixon. He and Lucille have five children: Eddie, Dickie, Sharon (Dixon) McGahee, Susan (Dixon) Ball, and Rebecca (Dixon) Tatum. They taught them all to have Faith in God. While serving as a Baptist preacher at the age of 28, he was baptized with the Holy Ghost. He served as an ordained minister in the Church of God for 50 years; a Florida State Evangelist for 5 ½ years; Director of World Missions Outreach for 30 years; and was a foreign missionary for over 35 years in 40 countries of the world. He believed staunchly in the New Birth; Baptism of the Holy Ghost; Divine Healing; laying on of Believer?s hands; casting out demons; world evangelization; speaking in tongues; divine miracles; and Eternal Life in the world to come. His ministry was a fulfillment of Mark 16:17-18: "These signs shall follow them that believe." His ministry saw the blind receive their sight, the deaf ears heard, the dumb tongues spoke, the lame walked, and cancers disappeared. His greatest inspiration was Heaven, as well as living free from sickness, death, and torments; life forever without fear, demons, trials, and afflictions; and no devil to confront. He leaves behind his beloved wife and children, 13 grandchildren ? Rick Dixon, Michael Dixon, Melissa (McGahee) Shelton, Josh Ball, Jeremy Ball, Nickolas Dixon, Matt McGahee, Jordan Ball, Jaleena Ball, Donielle Tatum, Caleb Tatum, and Andrea Tatum. He also left a legacy of love to his nine great-grandchildren. He has gone on to receive a great reward in Heaven, where "eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love Him." (I Cor. 2:9) Funeral services will be held at 7:00 p.m. Monday, May 7, 2012, at Ralph Buckner Funeral Home with the Reverend Mitch Maloney officiating. Interment will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 8, 2012, at Lebanon Baptist Church Cemetery with a white dove release ceremony concluding the service. Serving as pallbearers will be Rick Dixon, Josh Ball, Jeremy Ball, Jordan Ball, Caleb Tatum, Eric Ball, Don Tatum and Kyle Postlewaite. Serving as honorary pallbearer will be Matt McGahee.
