Gladys Uel Kirkpatrick, 84, a resident of Cleveland, passed away Sunday, May 22, 2011 in a Cleveland hospital. She was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church. She was a graduate of Bradley Central High School Class of 1946. She was an accomplished seamstress and worked in food preparation at Oak Grove School and Waterville School for many years. Mrs. Kirkpatrick was the daughter of the late Ashley Ownby and Ethel Wheeler Ownby and was also preceded in death by her husband, James L. Kirkpatrick, daughter-in-law, Cathy Kirkpatrick and several brothers and sisters. She is survived by her children: Bob Kirkpatrick and wife Linda Kirkpatrick of Cleveland and Marvin Kirkpatrick of McDonald; five grandchildren: Josh Kirkpatrick, Melissa Johnson and husband, Cody, Jason Kirkpatrick, Caleb Kirkpatrick and wife Michelle and Cassandra Kirkpatrick; two step grandsons and wives, Len and Vicki Queen and Timothy and Jessica Queen; four step great-granddaughters, Ashlyn, Emily, Tylan and Lexy; two sisters: Ruth Ownby and Mary Wooten both of Cleveland; one brother, Ray Ownby and wife Myrtle of Cleveland; sisters-in-law, Oleta Ownby, Frankie Ownby, Grace Ownby all of Cleveland and Zetta Moore of Ooltewah; several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 25, 2011 in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home with Marvin Kirkpatrick and Pastor Rusty Langford officiating. Interment will follow in Chestuee Cemetery with a white dove release ceremony concluding the service. Her family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
