JUDITH POWERS Judith Powers, 62, a resident of Cleveland, passed away Saturday evening, April 11, 20009. Ms. Powers was Director of Communications at Check Into Cash, Inc. from November 2005-present. Before moving to Cleveland, she was Publisher and Editor-in-Chief of Waterway Guide, a boating publication owned by Primedia, Inc. Ms. Powers was an accomplished writer, editor, and publisher and achieved many awards such as: Gold Quill (highest award) for feature writing, headline writing, and an award for script-writing. She loved to sail and was an accomplished mariner and U.S. Coast Guard Licensed Captain. She was the former owner and operator of Bravo Charters, and Founder of Pacific Seacraft Orion Owners Association. She graduated from University of TN-Knoxville and completed additional coursework at New York University, Emory University and Georgia State University. Ms. Powers was a member of St. Luke?s Episcopal Church, Historical Cleveland Neighborhood Association Leadership Committee, Museum Center at 5 Points and the Cleveland Library. She was appointed by the City Council to serve on the Underground Utilities Project. She served on the Communication Committee of the Community Financial Services Association of America. She is preceded in death by her parents, Lynn Huntley Powers and Goldie Bryan Powers and her only brother, Robert Powers. Survivors include her aunt Bonita B. Knight of Painesville, OH and cousins Barbara K. Boone of Windsor, CO. John B. Knight Jr. of Parker, CO. and Sandra K. Foley of Parma, OH. The DeVault-Tipton family she loved and embraced: Winona Tipton, Lynn DeVault, Jim DeVault, David Tipton, Pam Tipton and Michael Tipton and dear friend Glo Ghegan. Special caregivers, Carol Corum, Judy Belk, and Pam Mathews. A memorial service will be conducted at noon on Friday, April 17, 2009 at St. Luke?s Episcopal Church in Cleveland, TN with Priest Joel Huffstetler presiding. Friends are invited to gather for fellowship at the Parish Hall of the church at 11:00 AM. If desired and in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Luke?s Episcopal Church, Cleveland, TN or The American Cancer Society in her memory.
