Coach Steve McAmis, 54, a resident of Georgetown, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 16, 2009, after a ten month battle with brain cancer. He touched many lives during his 32 years as an educator and coach in the Bradley County School System. He was a member of West Cleveland Baptist Church where he served as the music director. He had also served as music and youth director at several area churches. A graduate of Bradley High School, he went to Rhodes College in Memphis where he played football. Upon graduation, he coached at Bradley Jr. High (Ocoee Middle School), Charleston High and Walker Valley High School where he also taught psychology and sociology. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing, and training Labrador Retrievers in his free time. He was preceded in death by his grandparents: Andy and Pearl McAmis, Margaret Bishop and Newman Dyer; and several uncles. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Doris McAmis of Georgetown; daughter and son-in-law, Stephanie and Corey Painter of Georgetown; grandson, Eli Painter of Georgetown; parents: Mary and Earl McAmis of Cleveland; brothers: Keith McAmis, and Wayne McAmis and wife Kim, all of Cleveland; half sister, Debbie Shults and husband Mack of Cohutta, GA; aunt, Sue Penwell and husband Wayne of Ten Mile; uncle, A. B. McAmis of McMinnville; very special uncle, Ken Dyer of Jacksonville, FL; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Charles and Johnnie Marshall; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 p.m. (noon) Saturday, April 19, 2009, in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home with Reverend Jeff Bentley officiating. Entombment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens concluding with a white dove release ceremony. Bill Robertson, Eric Swafford, Scott Webb, Jon Lovingood, Jack Groomes, and Michael McKinney will serve as pallbearers. His family will receive friends from 4 ? 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home and Saturday from 10 a.m. ? 12:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
