Thomas Toomey

Thomas Toomey, 74, of Calhoun, passed away Tuesday, October 20, 2009 in a local hospital. He served in the United States Army in Germany during 1958-1960. He worked at Sears until health reasons forced him to retire in 1976. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching them on television, but mostly enjoyed watching his grandchildren out his window while they were playing. He was of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by his parents, James A. Toomey and Sallie Burris Toomey; brother, Brad Toomey; and sisters, Louise and Lois Toomey. He is survived by his children, Byron Toomey and wife, Christine and Michael Toomey and his wife, Kim, all of Calhoun; special grandchildren, Megan and Caleb Toomey; brother, J. D. Toomey and wife, Lorene; niece, Drucilla Taylor and husband Bob and their daughter, Rachel, all of Old Fort. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 21, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home with Reverend Joel Jenkins officiating. Interment will be held on Thursday, October 22nd at 11:00 a.m. in Friendship Cemetery with military honors. Stoney Daniel, Kenneth Lee, Les Moss, Joseph Toomey, Zeke Snyder, and Travis Toomey will serve as pallbearers. A white dove release ceremony will conclude the service. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, October 21st from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the funeral home prior to the service.
