Florence Maddux Hamilton, 96, died Saturday morning, October 31, 2009 at her home surrounded by her family. She was a lifelong resident of Bradley County and member of North Cleveland Baptist Church. A member of the Dorcas Sunday School Class, she enjoyed visiting the shut-ins with Pastor Jay McCluskey and her friend Nell Bunch. Affectionately known as Mamaw, she also enjoyed gardening and doing her own yard work, supplying her neighbors with vegetables from her garden. She was a member of the Home Demonstration Club and an avid quilter and seamstress. She enjoyed her large family and especially having them all home for lunch gatherings on holidays. She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Lottie Green Maddux; her husband, C.L. (Shan) Hamilton; sisters, Edna Quintrell, Sallie Hamilton, Irene Hooper and Edith Maddux; brothers, Walter Maddux and Fletcher Maddux; and daughter-in-law, Jacqueline Hamilton. Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Frances and Mike Pierce, Joye and Jim Goodner, Juanita and John Eldridge; son, Loye Hamilton; sons and daughters-in-law, Jackie and Sharon Hamilton, Carl and Ann Hamilton, Bill and Debra Hamilton; sister-in-law, Florence Kaplan; brother-in-law, Claude Tatum and special friend, Jo Stewart; 16 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; 5 great- great- grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. The Celebration of her life will be held at North Cleveland Baptist Church at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 3, 2009 with the Reverend Jay McCluskey officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens with her grandsons: Michael Pierce, David Goodner, Rob Hamilton, Jeff Eldridge, Joel Goodner, Matt Hamilton and Brad Hamilton serving as pallbearers. A white dove release ceremony will conclude the service. The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Monday, November 2, 2009 at Ralph Buckner Funeral Home and for one hour before the funeral at the church.
