David Wallace Gordon, 75, of Charleston, passed away November 4, 2009 at his home. He was known as “Big Wally” and owned and operated Calhoun Transportation Service from 1978 until 2004. He could still remember all the routes and points of interest he traveled all the years he drove a truck. He was an avid steam engine admirer and collected antique farm tractors. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mason and Christine Gordon and brother, Tom Gordon. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Betty Gordon; five children, Pat Steadman and husband, Perry of Hendersonville, NC, Diane Little and husband, Richard of Powder Springs, GA, David Gordon and wife, Patty of Calhoun, Chris Toomey and husband, Byron of Calhoun and Karen Heifner and husband, John of Charleston; 18 grandchildren, Paul Summey, Scott Summey, Tammy Condon, Heather McDonald, David Little, Kathy Dover, Bill Little, Carole Mull, Byron Little, Ruthe Pavone, Billie Stevens, James Gordon, Matthew Nyberg. Amanda Rogers, Gwen Borin, Allen Freeman, Miranda Heifner and C.J. Heifner; 21 great grandchildren that affectionately called him Poppa G; 6 great great grandchildren; three brothers, Norman, Richard and Gene Gordon; two sisters, Doris Hollifield and Linda Wilson; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, November 5, 2009 at 8:00 p.m. in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home with the Reverend Ron Sorah officiating. Interment will be held on Friday at 11:00 a.m. in Calhoun First Baptist Cemetery with Paul Summey, Scott Summey, Nicholas McDonald, Allen Freeman, C.J. Heifner, Doug Stevens, James Gordon, Josh Borin and David Rogers serving as pallbearers. A white dove release ceremony will conclude the service. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home prior to the service.
