William Carl Green

January 20, 1927 — June 19, 2009

William Carl Green, 82, of Cleveland passed away Friday, June 19, 2009 at his home. He retired from the shipping department of Brown Stove Works after 42 years of service. He was a member of New Hope Primitive Baptist Church. He was discharged from the U.S. Air Force after 10 years of service to his country at the rank of 1st Sergeant. He was awarded the Purple Heart, Air Force Commendation Medal, America Campaign Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Korean Service Medal, Asiatic and Pacific Service Medal and Japanese Service Medal. He was awarded the Bronze Star for taking a pilot out of a burning aircraft. When asked how he got the guy out of the plane all he would say was, I was only a tool in God?s hand. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Green; father, John Green; seven brothers, Luther Green, Clyde Green, Richard Green, Marvin Green, Olin Green, Houston Green and Claude Green; four sisters, Alice Dyer, Eliza Green, Sarah Thomas and Mamie Roberson. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Kate Green of Cleveland; one son, Rickey Green and wife, Lisa; two grandchildren, Mark Green and wife, Amanda and Brandy Green; one great grandchild, Taylor Anderson and one step great grandchild, Hallie Dodd; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, June 22, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home with Elder John Robbins officiating and Danny Roberson delivering the eulogy. Interment will follow at Fort Hill Cemetery with military honors. Terry Green, Melvin Green, Eddie Thomas Charles Green, David Green, Mark Green, Jerry Green and Stanley Roberson will serve as pallbearers. A white dove release ceremony will conclude the service. The family will receive friends on Sunday, June 21, 2009 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
