Charles Beckler

CHARLES T. BECKLER, 65, a resident of Nashville, former resident of Cleveland and a native of Polk County, passed away Saturday, March 14, 2009, at his home in Nashville. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army serving during the Vietnam Conflict. He graduated from Tennessee Wesleyan College in 1970 and was employed with Collins & Aikman as administrative manager and plant manager for several years. He was a member of Cookson Creek Baptist Church in Polk County. Charles was a number one fan and "walking statistician" of the Brooklyn and Los Angeles Dodgers for more than 50 years. He was preceded in death by his parents: Woodrow Benedict Beckler and Lillie Marie Jean Cason Beckler. He is survived by one son, Chuck Beckler of Nashville; one granddaughter, Ciarre McHolland of Oklahoma City, OK; two brothers and their spouses: Ray and Shirley Beckler of Cleveland, and David and Carol Beckler of Knoxville; nieces: Amee Oldham and husband Bill of Knoxville, and Lisa Dempsey and husband Jason of Cleveland; nephews: Tommy Beckler and wife Diane of Cleveland, Jonathan Beckler of Cleveland, Jonah Beckler and wife Jen of Knoxville; uncle, Robert Beckler of Ocoee; and aunt, Francis Hall of Cleveland. Funeral services will be conducted at 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 18, 2009, in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home with Pastor Bobby Atkins officiating. Interment with military honors will be Thursday, March 19, 2009, at 10:00 a.m. in the Chattanooga National Cemetery with all the members of the Polk County High School football teams for school years 1959-1960 and 1960-1961 serving as honorary pallbearers. Junior Dixon, Joe Edwards, Neal Pippinger, Jerry Stinnett, Freeman Curbow and Charles Lawson will serve as pallbearers. His family will receive friends from 5:30 ? 8:00 p.m. Wednesday prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be sent to the Cleveland Gideon Camp, P.O. Box 1163, Cleveland, TN 37364.
