Harold German

June 9, 1929 — March 17, 2009

Harold D. German, 79, of Cleveland, TN, went to be with The Lord on March 17, 2009 at his home surrounded by his loved ones. He was born and raised at Caney Creek in Polk County, TN. He was a member of Central Church of Christ. He was retired from the Department of Transportation where he was a regional director of Tennessee and was also a licensed surveyor for the state of Tennessee. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving in the Korean Conflict. Throughout his life he was very active in the American Legion and the Disabled American Veterans. He was State Commander of Tennessee for two terms and won many awards for his service. His other hobby was classic cars and was a member of the Cleveland Corvette Club… He owned a 1973 stingray corvette and attended many car shows and won awards and trophies. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Margaret German; sisters, Inez Morgan and Opal Cartwright; brother, Laurence "Buddy" German. He will be greatly missed by his beloved wife of 55 years Ann German. They had three daughters, Delinda and Ron Crawford of Delano, Mizi Higgins form MD and Robin and Boyd Hodges from Georgia. They were blessed with four grandchildren, Patrick and Morgan Stewart from Cleveland and Danielle and Jesse Higgins from MD. He also has a brother John "Doc" German from Cleveland; many nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, March 20, 2009 in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home with Minister Tom Harrison officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens with military honors. A white dove release ceremony will conclude the service. His family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, March 19, 2009 at the funeral home.
