Anna M Moore

July 1, 1919 — May 5, 2011

Anna M. Moore, 91, a resident of Cleveland, passed away Thursday, May 5, 2011 with her family by her side. She became a member of First Baptist Church in September 1941 and was a member of the church choir for 65 years. She graduated from Harrison Chilhowee Baptist Academy and from Carson Newman College with a BA Degree in French and Spanish, Magna Cum Laude. She was a former educator and worked in the Cleveland City School System at Blythe Avenue for 1 year and 7 years at Arnold. In the Bradley County School System she taught Spanish for 22 years at Bradley Central High. After retirement, she was a substitute teacher at Cleveland High and Bradley Central High School. She was a member of the Cleveland Retired Teachers Association, a founding member of the Cleveland Community Concert Association and a Life Time member of the Cleveland Music Club. Mrs. Moore also was a volunteer at the Literacy Center, OAR, Opportunity for Adult Reading. She was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Ethel Derrick; husband, Glenn Moore; grandson, Jason Lee; and brother, Lester Derrick. Survivors included her children: Derrick Moore of Louisville, KY; and Margaret Lee and husband, Daryl of Cleveland; grandson, Jeremy Lee and fiancé, Paige Jackson both of Murfreesboro. A memorial service will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. Monday, May 9, 2011 in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home with the Reverend Tom Wickes, Dr. Rodney Fitzgerald and the Reverend Rusty Asble officiating. A private inurnment will be Tuesday at Hilcrest Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home prior to the service. The family suggests memorials be made to First Baptist Church Music Program, 1275 Stuart Rd. NE, Cleveland, TN 37312 or a charity of your choice.
