Shirley Elizabeth Ruth May went to be with the Lord peacefully surrounded by family on May 14, 2011. She was born August 8, 1940 in Cleveland, Tennessee and was graduated from Bradley Central High School. A devoted follower of Christ, she exemplified love and grace as a precious wife, mother and grandmother and as an inspiration and caring friend to many. She loved the church and devoted her life to service. She was a member of Impact Fellowship and worked as financial secretary at Madison Avenue Baptist Church for 25 years until her retirement in 2005. Preceded in death by parents, C.L. and Edna Ruth, brothers, LeRoy, Jerry and Chris. Survived by devoted husband of 49 years, William T. May of Maryville; daughters and sons-in-law, Kelley and Jim Chamberlain of Alcoa, Karen and Brad Pollard of Budapest, Hungary; son and daughter-in-law, William II and Jane May of Louisville, TN; beloved grandchildren, Trey, Taylor and Ty Chamberlain, Abby and Chloe Pollard, brothers, Bill, Jimmy and Cecil Ruth, and a host of other family and friends. Funeral services will be conducted at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 18, 2011 in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home with Dr. Greg Howard officiating. Interment will follow in Shiloh Cemetery in Ocoee, with Robert May, Trey Chamberlain, Taylor Chamberlain, Jeff Spence, Larry Spence and Troy Spence serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 17, 2011 at Madison Avenue Baptist Church in Maryville, Tennessee from 5:00-8:00 p.m. and on Wednesday, May 18, 2011 from 4:00 -6:00 p.m. at the funeral home prior to the service.
