Richard John Hogan, Sr., 86, passed away Monday, December 29, 2008 at the family residence. He was the ninth child of ten children in his family. He was a charter member of St. Therese of Lisieux Catholic Church. He opened the Duracell Plant in Cleveland in 1960 where he served as the first plant manager and later worked as manager of the Duracell Southeastern Region. He was the last surviving charter member of the Cleveland Associated Industries where he was recognized for his contribution to the area?s corporate development. He was recognized by Duracell International for manufacturing excellence and employee satisfaction and was noted for developing and implementing zero defects, reward recognition, and employee profit sharing. A veteran of the United States Army Airforce, he served in World War II in the South Pacific. An avid golfer, he was a long time member of the Cleveland Country Club where he achieved a hole?in- one. Mr. Hogan was the son of the late Daniel and Anne English Hogan and was also preceded in death by his wife Vera Galloway Hogan. Survivors include his three children: Joyce Hogan of Cleveland, Janis Hogan and husband Don Farrell of Southbury, Connecticut and Richard Hogan of Cleveland; grandchildren and spouses: Jason Tinsley and Mary Lynn Wright Tinsley of Clarksville, Georgia, Bryan Tinsley and Angelynn Edward Tinsley of Nashville, Richard John Hogan, III and Bethany Randolph Hogan of Cleveland,; great-grandchildren: Jackson Tinsley, Joel Tinsley both of Clarksville, Noah Hogan of Cleveland and Jensen Tinsley of Clarksville; two sisters: Grace Aune of Pleasantville, New York and Mary Higgins of Yorktown Heights, New York; several nieces and nephews also survive. Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, January 2, 2009 at St. Therese of Lisieux Catholic Church with Father P.J. Mc Ginnity and Father Antonio Giraldo officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens with military honors. A white dove release ceremony will conclude the service. His family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, January 1, 2009 at Ralph Buckner Funeral Home. A prayer service will be held following the visitation.
