Vernon G Whaley

Vernon G. Whaley, 81, a life long resident of Cleveland, passed away Tuesday, January 6, 2009 at the family residence. He was a charter member of Valley View Baptist Church. He was a member of the Cleveland Amature Radio Club with call letters WB4YEL. He was a retired member of the International Association of Heat and Frost Insulators and Asbestos Workers Local # 46. He was employed with the Local #46 for thirty seven years. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving in Korea. Mr. Whaley was the son of the late Ernest Jackson (E.J.) Whaley and Rhoda Sandidge Whaley. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Wilma Whaley of Cleveland; three children and spouses: Marion and Melanie Whaley of Cleveland, Melinda and Loren Lomenick of Chattanooga and Mark and Margaret Whaley of Ocoee; two grandchildren: Lauren Whaley and Kristyn Whaley; one brother, P. Don Whaley and wife Hazel Whaley of Cleveland; several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Thursday, January 8, 2009 in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home with Pastor Doug Hawkins and Pastor Brian Smith officiating. Interment will follow in Cedar Springs Baptist Church Cemetery with a white dove release ceremony concluding the service. Ronnie Whaley, Tanner Whaley, Mike Delay, Darrell Goodwin, Brian Goodwin and Andy Maples will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Darrell Anderson and David Maples. His family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, January 7, 2009 at the funeral home.
