Sylvia Norman Britt, age 92, a resident of Cleveland, passed away Saturday, January 17, 2009 at the family residence. She was an active member at Hopewell Church of God where she taught Sunday School and also served on the Church of God Home for Children Board for many years. Mrs. Britt was a graduate of the University of Tennessee School of Nursing in Memphis, TN. After working as public health nurse in Sumner and Monroe counties, she was sent to the University of Michigan where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in Public Health Nursing. She retired as director of Public Health Nursing in the Knoxville office. She also worked as a volunteer at the University of Tennessee memorial office. In 1989 she returned to Cleveland where she volunteered at Bradley Memorial Hospital for many years. She also enjoyed bird watching, fishing, and traveling. She was the daughter of the late William Arthur Norman and Rosa Randolph Norman. Mrs. Britt was also preceded in death by her husband, Charles Mitchell Britt; brothers: Liston Norman and Ennis Norman; sisters: Lillie Goodwin, Hazel Ledford, and Reba Pearl Ward. Survivors include two sisters: Lucille Curbow of Cleveland, and Marie Sutton of Lexington KY. One step-daughter, Janie Payne of Knoxville. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be conducted at 12 noon, January 20, 2009 at Hopewell Church of God with Pastor Jerry L. Millwood officiating. Interment will follow in Hilcrest Memorial Gardens with Ray Norman, Johnny Park, Gary Goodwin, Mike Long, Bob Belk, Allen Lane, Bud Cochran, and Ron Ricketts serving as pallbearer. A white dove release ceremony will conclude the service. Her family will receive friends from 5-7 P.M. Monday evening at Ralph Buckner Funeral Home in Cleveland and 30 minutes prior to the service Tuesday at the church.
