Johnny Ledford

June 9, 1925 — January 22, 2009

Johnny "George" Ledford, Sr. Johnny "George" Ledford, Sr., 83, a resident of Cleveland, passed away Thursday, January 22, 2009 at his home. He was of the Christian faith and attended South Cleveland Church of God. He owned and operated Ledford Auto Service for over forty years. He was a charter member of the City of Cleveland Police Reserve where he served for 17 years. He was a member of Calico Squares for a number of years. He love to fish and spend time with is beloved pets, Stubby and Lady. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Taylor Ledford and Allie Prince Ledford and mother of his children, Floura E. Derrick Ledford; infant daughter, Linda Ledford: sister and brother-in-law, Stella and Jim Gregg; granddaughter, Alison Ledford; step-daughter, Deborah Marshall-Akins and step grandson, J.J. Marshall. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Genevieve Lawson Ledford; sons: Johnny Ledford and Danny Ledford and wife, Kim; daughter, Betty Higdon and husband, Jeff; step daughters: Linda Humberd and husband, Tom and Vicki Queen and husband, Danny; seven grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; 3 step-grandchildren; 3 step-great grand children; brothers: R.L. Ledford and Ralph Ledford all of Cleveland; sisters: Gladys Floyd and husband, Clyde of Cleveland and Emma L. Trentham of Athens; several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 24, 2009 in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home with Pastor Chris Moody officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens with Dustin Ledford, Terry Grimes, Hugh Beshears, Chris Queen, Kevin Queen and Shane Hughes serving as pallbearers. The service will conclude with a white dove release ceremony. His family will receive friends from 5-9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to South Cleveland Church of God Bldg.
