Bobby H. "Footlong" Long, 65, a resident of Cleveland, passed away surrounded by his loving family Tuesday, January 27, 2009 after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. He was a member of Samples Memorial Baptist Church and a member of Valley View Ruritan Club. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. For thirty-nine years he drove a truck for Magic Chef – Maytag Corporation. He was preceded in death by his father, Rue A. Long, special grandchild, Casey Long and brother, Joe Long. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Diane E. Long of Cleveland; mother, Minnie Long Carden of Charleston; three children: Johnny D. Long, Patty Thompson and husband, Terry and Bobby Long all of Cleveland; four grandchildren: Ashley Stevenson, Cody Thompson, Amber Long and Holli Long; seven brothers and sisters: Don Long and wife, Gayle, Benny Long and wife, Nancy all of Cleveland; Belle Samples and husband, Jerry of Charleston, Dean Lee and husband, Ronald of Cleveland; Larry Long of Calhoun, Ronnie Long, Jerry Long and wife, Eileen all of Cleveland and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 29, 2009 in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home with Pastor Lee Ingram and Associate Pastor Mark Cameron officiating. Interment will follow in Samples Memorial Baptist Church Cemetery with Michael Long, Chris Samples, Michael Stevenson, Clifford Murphy and Elijah Perkins and Thomas Woody serving as pallbearers. Military honors and a white dove release ceremony will conclude the service. His family will receive friends from 3-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
