Allen Eugene "Al" Benjamin, 78, a resident of Cleveland for the past 20 years previously of Houston, TX, passed away Tuesday, January 27, 2009 in a local hospital. He graduated from the University of Nebraska with a degree in accounting. He served on the Cleveland City Board of Zoning Appeals. In 1996, he retired from Maytag Corporation where he was the Director of Logistics. He was an avid sportsman and particularly enjoyed golf and fishing. He was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene Benjamin and Cathryn Pollack Benjamin and sister, Anne Benjamin. He is survived by his wife, Joan "Jo" Elizabeth Purcell Benjamin of Cleveland; brother, Mr. and Mrs. Harlan Benjamin of Milan, MI; sister, Edith Brill of Westland, MI; sister-in-law, Roseland Klein of Fort Davis, TX; brothers-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Purcell of Ypsilanti, MI; and Mr. and Mrs. Jack Purcell of Boerne, TX and several nieces and nephews. A gathering of friends will be from 4:30 -7:30 P.M. Thursday, January 29, 2009 at Ralph Buckner Funeral Home.
