L.A. “Bud” Smith, Sr., 82, of Cleveland and known by so many as “Pop” went home to be with the Lord Sunday, February 13, 2011. He was a logger and farmer most of his life. He was a member of Wesleyann Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife Janie; father and mother, William “Boss” and Mary Smith; sons, Roger and Calvin Smith and one sister, Clarice Bonine. He is survived by four sons: L.A. Smith, Jr. of Cleveland, Donald and wife Carolyn Smith of Sevierville, TN, Gary and wife Lucy Smith of McDonald and Steve Smith of Cleveland; one daughter, Judy and husband Kenny Newton of Cleveland; three stepsons: Andy Carney, Billy Dixon and Eddie Dixon all of Cleveland; one stepdaughter, Betty Hicks of Reliance, TN; two brothers, Harold and wife Maybelle Smith and Carroll “Red” and wife Sue Smith all of Cleveland; two sisters, Ruth Brannon and Ida Mae Hitson of Cleveland, seven grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 16, 2011 in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home with Pastor David Beatty officiating. Interment will follow in Ironsburg Cemetery in Monroe County with Tommy King, John Fandrey, Randy Bacon, Nathan Hatmaker, Billy Dixon and Andy Carney serving as pallbearers. A white dove release ceremony will conclude the service. His family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, February 15, 2011 at the funeral home.
