Roberta Norman

Ganelle "Nell" McClure Samples, 71, of Cleveland passed away in her home on Thursday, October 16, 2008 with her loving family at her side. She was a beloved mother, grandmother and mentor to her extended family and the hundreds of students she taught during her career in the Bradley County School system. She taught for several years at Taylor Elementary, transferring to Trewhitt when it opened in 1976 (later renamed Lake Forrest School) where she taught until retiring in 1997. She taught English and coached both speech and drama. Nell was a well known and talented local bridge player. She was preceded in death by her parents, Morris and Ganelle McClure and grandparents William and Annabelle Trewhitt, and John and Mattie McClure. Survivors include her husband of fifty years, James F. Samples, sons Mark Samples of Cookeville, Tennessee, Greg Samples and his wife Cheryl of Lynchburg, Virginia and David and his wife Bekki of Cleveland; grandchildren, Daniel Samples, Emily Samples, Alec Samples, Anna Samples, Garrett Samples, Victoria Samples and Jacob Samples; also brother, Bill McClure and his wife Louise "Snookie" of Cleveland. A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 18, 2008 at 4:00 p.m. in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home with the Reverend Andrew Henry officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:30 until 4:00 p.m. preceding the memorial service at the funeral home.
