Patsy Jean Martz, 81, loving mother and grandmother passed away on Sunday, October 19. Jean was a charming, gracious and generous lady. She was well known for her wonderful sense of humor, as well as being a marvelous cook. Jean was a descendant of a Bradley County pioneer family. She was raised by her maternal grandfather, Dr. William Bedford Campbell, and spent her childhood at a North Ocoee farm, which later became a part of what is known as the Sullivan Addition. Jean attended Bradley Central High School, Bob Jones College, Maryville College and later in life, obtained a degree from Cleveland State Community College. She worked with the Holiday Inn for nearly 20 years, after being a "stay at home mom" for a number of years. Jean enjoyed her affiliation with Beta Sigma Phi (an international sorority). She was a founding member and stayed involved for nearly 50 years. She was also a member of the D.A.R. and the U.D.C. Jean was a member of the Rodgers Sunday School Class at Broad Street United Methodist Church, where she was a lifelong member. She was preceded in death by her husband of 36 years, George Warren Martz; her mother and father, Catherine Campbell Childress and William Thomas Childress; grandfather and grandmother, Dr. William Bedford Campbell and Maude Horton Campbell; Peter Grant Childress and Eula Jane Davis Childress. She is survived by her three loving sons and daughter-in-law: Stan Martz, Wallis Martz (daughter-in-law); Wesley Martz; Tom Martz, all of Cleveland; by her adoring grandchildren, Liesl Nicole Martz and Collin Campbell Martz of Nashville and her uncle, Carl Campbell of Knoxville, TN. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, October 22 at 1 p.m. at Broad Street United Methodist Church; with a reception beginning at 12:00 p.m. Debbie Stokes and Reed Shell will lead the service. Interment for family and friends will be conducted at the Hilcrest Cemetery following the memorial service. The family will receive friends from 5p.m. until 8p.m. Tuesday, October 21, 2008 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society, Broad Street United Methodist Church or a charity of choice.
