James L. Moss, 89, a resident of Cleveland, passed away Saturday, November 8, 2008, at his home. He and his wife recently moved to this area from Garland, Texas, where he was a member of the First United Methodist Church, and also the Masonic Lodge F&AM and Scottish Rite. Before his retirement, he was employed with the Garland School District for many years as an education administrator. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army Airforce in Europe, Africa and Sicily. While attending McMurray College in Abilene, Texas, in the late 1930?s, he played on the varsity football team and later became a loyal fan of the Dallas Cowboys. He was also an avid fisherman. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elbert and Myrtle Ernest Moss, brothers: Troy Moss, Perry Moss and Kennith Moss, all of Texas; and special brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bill and Joni Schultz of Cleveland. He is survived by his wife, Alpha Moss of Cleveland; one daughter, Pam Marr and husband Danny of Cleveland; two grandsons and their wives: Adam and Kelly Marr, and Aaron and Kate Marr, all of Smyrna, GA; one great-granddaughter, Abby Marr of Smyrna, GA; two brothers: Doyle Moss of Brownfield, TX, and Jack Moss and wife Sandra of Lubbock, TX; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 12, 2008, in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home with the Reverend Debbie Stokes officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at 1:00 p.m. in the Chattanooga National Cemetery. His family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Wednesday before the service.
