Virgil White

March 9, 1922 — December 1, 2008

Virgil White, 86, a resident of Cleveland, passed away Monday, December 1, 2008 in a local hospital. He was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church. He was employed with South Central Bell for 35 years and was also a member of the Telephone Pioneers. He was a charter member of the Oak Grove Ruritan Club and also a charter member of the Bradley High School Bear Boosters Association. He was a veteran of the United States Navy serving in World War II. Mr. White was the son of the late Frank White and Sara Evalee Roderick White and was also preceded in death by his wife, Rosa White and one sister, Carzelle Pence. Survivors include his four children and spouses: Kaye and Johnny McClanahan, Sarah and Chuck Suits and Elizabeth and Kenneth Fortner all of Cleveland, Frank and Natalie White of Clarksville, TN; eight grandchildren: Travis McClanahan, Holly Roark, Kelly McClanahan, Jason Suits, David Suits, Aaron Fortner, Amy Hobbs, Andrew White; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters: Geneva Finnell of Cleveland and Winona Campbell of Atlanta, GA; several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, December 4, 2008 in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home with Pastor Rusty Langford officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens with military honors. Grandsons and grandsons-in-law will serve as pallbearers. His family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, December 3, 2008 at the funeral home.
