W. Alfred “Big Al” Melton, 69, a life long resident of Cleveland, passed away Tuesday, November 23, 2010 at a local hospital. He was a member of White Oak Baptist Church. He was retired from Bendix after sixteen years of service. He was a member of the United Auto Workers, the Soddy Daisy Knife Club and the Case Collectors Club. Mr. Melton was the son of the late Horace and Dorcas Burgiss Melton and was also preceded in death by a sister, Leona Holmes. He is survived by his wife, Linda Sue Eckstein Melton of Cleveland; two children: Valerie Melton of Cleveland and Pat Melton and wife Nita Melton of Georgetown, TN; two grandchildren: Katie Melton and Megan Melton; several honorary grandchildren; one sister, Betty Melton Gamble of Cleveland; several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, November 27, 2010 in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Hilcrest Memorial Gardens with a white dove release concluding the service. Johnny Burgiss, Jeff Parker, Anthony Cartwright, Tony Wooten, Brian Long, Terry Cross, Austin Melton, Andy Melton and Whitney Holmes will serve as pallbearers. His family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, November 26, 2010 at the funeral home.
