Ulysses Hester

Ulysses “Red” Hester, 79, a resident of Cleveland, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 24, 2010, at the family residence. He was a member of Westwood Baptist Church for over 50 years serving as a deacon many of those years. He was retired from Bowater. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving in the Korean War as a medic. Mr. Hester was the son of the late Dewey and Carrie Mae Young Hester and was also preceded in death by his siblings, Lafayette Hester, Dewey Hester, Jr., and Swan Ruth. He is survived by his wife, Virginia Cantrell Hester of Cleveland; two daughters and spouses: Pamela and Danny Smith of Pilot Mountain, North Carolina, and Vicki and Jay Hoffner of Cleveland; four grandchildren: Zachary and wife Andrea Smith of Jonesborough, TN, Derek and wife Jessica Smith of Gallatin, TN, Kyle Hoffner and Bradley Hoffner both of Cleveland; one brother, Thomas Hester of Chattanooga, TN; several nieces and nephews also survive. A private family graveside service will be held at Sunset Memorial Gardens with Rev. Zachary Smith, the grandson of the deceased, officiating. Ralph Buckner Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to the Westwood Baptist Church Mission Fund, 4001 Georgetown Road, NW, Cleveland, TN 37312.
