Verlon “Frenchy” Long, 81, a resident of Cleveland, passed away Friday, December 10, 2010, in a Chattanooga hospital. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Korean Conflict. Before his retirement he was employed with Dupont in Chattanooga for 33 years. He was a member of Fourth Street Community Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Willard and Lena Mae Webster Long, two brothers and one sister. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Virginia Banks Long of Cleveland; three children: Mike Long, Don Long and wife Beth, and Aletha Rayburn and husband Joe, all of Cleveland; eight grandchildren: Crystal Long, Tonya Long, Stephanie Spear, Sarah Long, David Long, Chris Rayburn and wife Melissa, Lauren Rayburn and Chelsey Rayburn; seven great-grandchildren: Sebastain Blake McCann, Lala and Jasamine Long, Starla, Bryson and Joshua Spear, and Axel Rayburn; three sisters: Berthel Ingram of Chattanooga, Ann Chandler and Dean Ogle, both of Fort Payne, AL; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 14, 2010, in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home with Pastor Guinn Green officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in Lee Cemetery in McDonald concluding with a white dove release ceremony. His family will receive friends from 5 – 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
