Daniel Lester Marthaler, 89, a resident of Charleston, passed away Wednesday, August 06, 2008 at the family residence. He was an Eagle Scout and was owner and operator of Dan?s Sharpening Service. He was a Corporal in the United States Army serving in World War II. Mr. Marthaler was the son of the late Herman Marthaler and Opal Pinkerman Marthaler and was also preceded in death by his wife, June Marthaler. He is survived by his six children: Carol Marthaler of Charleston, Don Foreman of Ohio, James Ray Marthaler, Sr. of Quincy, Illinois, Daniel Lester Marthaler, Jr. of Aurora, Colorado, Terry Frank and Mary Marthaler both of Kansas City; fourteen grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters:Diane Middendorf of Brown County, Indiana, Betty Johnson of Columbus, Ohio, Barbara Marthaler of Bullhead, Arizona, Benny Marthaler of Columbus, Indiana, Shelly Jewell of Columbus, Indiana, Harry Marthaler of Fairborn, Ohio and Michael Marthaler of Columbus, Indiana; several nieces and nephews also survive. His family will receive friends from 6-9 p.m. Friday, August 8, 2008 at Ralph Buckner Funeral Home.
