Charles Lee Boggess

Charles Lee "Charlie" Boggess, 72, a resident of Cleveland, passed away Thursday, October 02, 2008 in a local hospital. He was born October 29, 1935 in McMinn County, Tennessee. At the age of 18 Charlie was a member of the Athens Temple Baptist Church until 1958 when he and his family moved to Cleveland. He was pastor of Lamontville Baptist Church for a short time. In the early days he worked for L.B. Price Company doing door to door sales. He worked for Firestone and sold cars at Ridge Rambler. In the mid sixties he was a Sergeant at the Cleveland Police Department. He also started Bradley County Security Service in 1965 that he owned and operated for 32 years until his retirement in 1997. Charlie was one of the original members of the Bradley County Volunteer Rescue Squad. He was also a working reserve Deputy Sheriff for the Bradley County Sheriff?s Office. He was a member of Bradley County Citizens Band Radio Club. Charlie was preceded in death by his mother, Virginia Boggess Helton and his father, Oscar Boggess. He is survived by his wife, Sandra Lillard Boggess of Cleveland; six children and spouses: Mike and Kim Boggess, Elaine and Donnie Wear, James Gary Boggess all of Cleveland, Denise and Al Campbell of Knoxville, Patricia Lynn and John Boone of Cleveland and Lisa and Michael Patterson of Cleveland; two step-children: Brian Stevison and James Stevison and wife, Stephenie Stevison all of Cleveland; eleven grandchildren; one step-grandchild; five great-grandchildren; one sister and spouse: Brenda and Tom Childs of Cleveland; several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 4, 2008 in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home with Reverend Floyd Boggess officiating. Interment will follow in Johnston Cemetery in Meigs County with Alan Morris, Jr., Lee Boggess, Chad Davis, John Boone, Ray Wear, Mike Patterson, James Stevison and Mike Peden serving as pallbearers. A white dove release ceremony will conclude the service. His family will receive friends from 4-9 p.m. Friday, October 3, 2008 at the funeral home.
