Brenda Joyce Geren

September 16, 1950 — November 26, 2009

Brenda Joyce Geren, 59, a life long resident of Cleveland, took her journey home to be with the Lord on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 26, 2009 at her home. We have so much to be thankful for. She attended Clingan Ridge Baptist Church. She was a survivor of breast cancer for thirteen years until its reoccurrence three years ago. She sacrificed herself to take care of her husband who also had cancer. She always said he took care of her and it was her turn to take care of him. She drew strength from her husband and knowing that they would be together soon. She held strong to our Lord Jesus Christ. Brenda was born September 16, 1950 in Cleveland. She married David Geren in 1968. They were blessed with five children, 18 grandchildren, two great grandchildren and twin great grandsons due in 2010. She was a homemaker, a wonderful mom and ran a successful daycare for many years. She loved St. Joseph, MI, walks on the beach, sun bathing, doing ceramics, traveling and family get-togethers with all her children and grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, David Lynn Geren; father, L. C. Guthrie; mother, Julia Irene Guthrie; grandparents, William Anderson Guthrie, Lydia Guthrie, William K. Pulliam, Fannie Mae Pulliam; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Survivors include her children, Lynnette Willis and husband, Michael, Lisa George and husband, Carl, Linda Bishop and husband, Darryl and Laura Carter and husband, Wayne, all of Cleveland and David Geren II and wife, Summer of Charleston; grandchildren, Cody Knight, Heather King, Amber King, Matthew White, Joey White, Rebekah George, Jaclyn George, Hayden Bishop, Gavin Bishop, Danyelle Ownby, Dakota Ownby, Amanda Carter, Tasha Carter, Austin Geren, Milley Geren, Allie Geren, Blake Geren and Sydney Scroggins; great grandchildren, Cierra Carter and Carrie-Ann Thurman; sisters, Shelby Harris, Sandra Cofer and Rose Guthrie, all of Cleveland, and Donna Griffen of Alabama; brothers, Bill Guthrie of TN, Bob Guthrie and Tony Guthrie, both of Cleveland; mother-in-law, Margaret Irene Geren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 1, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home with Pastor Ricky Vaughn officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens with Cody Knight, Matthew White, Joey White, Hayden Bishop, Gavin Bishop and Jason Bolen serving as pallbearers. A white dove release ceremony will conclude the service. The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. We invite you to send a message of condolence and view the Geren family guestbook at www.ralphbuckner.com.
