Gene Allen Yost, 77, a resident of Cleveland, passed away Saturday, December 12, 2009, in a local hospital. He was retired from Olin Corporation as manager of quality assurance. He served as a 1st Lieutenant with the United States Army. He had a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln. He was the inventor of the Banjo Putter and president of the Banjo Golf Company. He was a member of Broad Street United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, William J. Yost and Anna Elizabeth Brehm Yost; brothers, Carl Yost and Bill Yost; and sisters, Violet Odom and Erma Simmons. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Barbara Yost of Cleveland; children, Beth Borst and husband, Mike; Steven Yost, David Yost and wife, Dana, and Michael Yost, all of Cleveland; grandchildren, Will Borst, Lauren Borst, Meredith Borst, Haydin Yost and Harrison Yost; sister, Lois Kreutz of Phillips, Nebraska; brother, Glenn Yost of Chicago, Illinois; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 17, 2009, at 12:30 p.m. at Broad Street United Methodist Church with the Reverend Reed Shell and the Reverend Debbie Stokes officiating. Interment will follow in Chattanooga National Cemetery with military honors. A white dove release ceremony will conclude the service. The family will receive friends Wednesday, December 16, 2009 from 5:00 – 8:00 pm at Ralph Buckner Funeral Home.
