Roy M Hicks

Roy Milburn Hicks, 91, a resident of Cleveland, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, January, 11, 2010. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was a member of First Baptist Church. He served with the US Army in the 581st AAA Brigade in World War II and spent 18 years volunteering in the public service unit in the Cleveland Police Department. He was a former service manager for Calloway Motors and was known by all for his skills as a local mechanic. He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Lou Ellen Hicks. He was the son of the late Levi W. and E. Cleo Randolph Hicks. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Helen L. Hicks and brothers, James Hicks and Clyde R. Hicks. Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Terri and Ron Ricketts of Cleveland; son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Carolyn Hicks of Knoxville: grandchildren: Laura Ricketts, Leslie and Ryan Tyner all of Cleveland, Rachel and Carlos Martinez of Forest Hills, NY and J.R. and Sarah Hicks of Flowery Branch, GA; great-grandsons, Samuel David Tyner of Cleveland and Matthew Martinez of Forest Hills, NY; and sisters, Wilma Hicks, Bonnie Lawson and Betty Hyde, all of Cleveland. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 pm Wednesday, January 13, 2010 in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home with the Rev. Tom Moncrief officiating. Interment will follow in Hilcrest Memorial Gardens with military honors. Raymond Smith, Matt Smith, David Tyner, Ray Norman, Don Akins and Shawn Harding will serve as pallbearers. A white dove release ceremony will conclude the service. The family will receive friends from 12-2:30 pm on Wednesday prior to the service.
