Floyd D Gill

Reverend Floyd Gill, 89, a resident of Cleveland, went home to be with Jesus, whom he devoted his life to on Sunday, January 24, 2010 in a local hospital. He was a loving husband to Myra Stotts Gill for 62 years. He was a Baptist minister for 58 years beginning his career in the Chattanooga area and moving to Cleveland in 1955. The churches he pastored in Cleveland include Blue Springs Baptist, 17 years, Maple Street Baptist, Goodwill Baptist and Parkway Baptist. He also served as interim pastor at several churches in the Cleveland area and also First Baptist Church in Charleston. He was known for his straight forward, simple message and quick wit. He was a graduate of Tennessee Temple University. He was a member of Candies Creek Baptist Church. He was a World War II veteran serving in the United States Army in the South Pacific. He was preceded in death by his parents, S. O. and Hattie Arnold Gill. He is survived by his wife, Myra Stotts Gill; children Donnie Gill and wife, Taryn and Janet Gill Jackson and husband, Steve; grandchildren, Dustin Gill, Stephanie Jackson Schafer and Coby Shamblin; great grandchildren, Grace and Eli Schafer and Kyndall and Avery Shamblin; sisters, Juanita Smith of Rossville, GA and Geneva Richie and husband, Wayne of Red Bank; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, January 27, 2010 at 4:00 p.m. in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home with Pastor Jamie Works and Pastor Kenney Isbill officiating. Internment will follow in Candies Creek Baptist Church Cemetery with Charles Wattenbarger, Bill Chastain, Milton Hooper, Dewayne Pierce, H. A. Clark and Murel Graham serving as pallbearers. A white dove release ceremony will conclude the service. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. at Ralph Buckner Funeral Home prior to the service.
