Alvin L. “Buddy” Derby, Jr., 22, of Cleveland, went home to be with his Heavenly Father, on Saturday, May 8, 2010 while swimming with his church group. He was a member of Mercy and Truth Ministries. To some of his friends he was known by his nickname, Micah. He was the beloved grandson of Eugene Joseph and Joyce Enzena Lewis Nastvogel of Cleveland and William Markland of Newport News, VA; and beloved brother of Victoria Holder of Cleveland and Sandi Holder of Melbourne, FL. He is also survived by his birth parents, Joani McCarty of Cleveland and Alvin Derby, Sr.; aunts and uncles, Donna and Michael Roach and David and Nancy Markland of Baltimore, MD and Janet and Daniel Goode of Cleveland; great aunt and uncle, Ben and Phyllis Lewis Rountree of Charleston; and numerous loving cousins; and special friend, Lisa Fitzgerald. Pastor Desmond Taylor was in charge of a private service for the immediate family and church family at Ralph Buckner Funeral Home, who was in charge of the arrangements.
