Albert E. Gruhl, 80, of Charleston, passed away Monday, May 17, 2010 in a Chattanooga healthcare facility. He retired from Alcoa Aluminum after 39 years of service. He was also a veteran of the United States Army having served during the Korean Conflict in Japan. He was a member of the Mended Hearts Organization in Iowa. He attended Wesley United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Katherine Moderi Gruhl. He is survived by his companion of 30 years, Mary F. Smith of Cleveland; children, Catherine Kany of Clearwater, FL, Barry Gruhl and wife, Debbie of Moline, IL and Cari Bosserdet and husband, Jim of Old Fort; 5 grandchildren, Brittany Gruhl, Maggie Gruhl, Bo Bosserdet, Jenna Bosserdet and Catlin Ashenfelter; 8 siblings, Joann Randolph of Mechanicsville, IA, Charles Gruhl of Toledo, WA, Lee Meyer of Stockton, IA, Merilu Bivens of Davenport, IA, Dee McKernie of Garden Grove, CA, Bonnie Peterson of Brigham City, UT, Richard Gruhl of LeClaire, IA and Carol Heath of East Moline, IL; and the mother of his children, Sue Navratil of Old Fort. Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, May 20, 2010 at 4:00 p.m. at Wesley United Methodist Church with Pastor Robert L. Smith officiating. The family suggests that memorials be made to their favorite church or Bradley County School in memory of Albert Gruhl.
