Roy Ownby, 84, a life long resident of Bradley County, passed away Wednesday, May 26, 2010 at his home. He was a retired salesman with Hickory Springs. He served with the United States Army during World War II where he was stationed in Japan. He was of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by his wife, Wilma Masengil Ownby; parents, Oscar and Maudie Armstrong Ownby; sisters, Edna Renner and Margie Stevenson; and son-in-law, James Tatum. He is survived by his children, Angela Tatum and Travis Ownby and wife, Marlene, all of Cleveland; grandchildren, Tyson Gates and wife, Jennifer, Curtis Ownby and Andrew Ownby and wife, Shauna; great grandchildren, Madison Ownby and Kamille, Michael, Aylisa and Serenity; brothers, Jim Ownby, Ralph Ownby and Lewis Ownby, all of Cleveland; sisters, Pauline Brackin and Essie Brackin, both of Cleveland; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, May 29, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home with the Reverend Roger Wagner and the Reverend Marvin Carr officiating. Interment will follow in Hilcrest Memorial Gardens with military honors. Billy Ownby, Doyle Ownby, Vernon Ownby, Charles Ownby, Curtis Ownby and Tyson Gates will serve as pallbearers. A white dove release ceremony will conclude the service. His family will receive friends Friday from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
