Elmer Raymond Jacobs Jr.

Elmer Raymond Jacobs, Jr., 94, a resident of Cleveland since 1954 passed away Thursday, October 28, 2010 in a Cleveland hospital. He was a member of the First Christian Church. He served in the United States Army in the Pacific during WW II from 1939 to 1945. Then he retired after serving in the US Army Reserves for many years where he received the rank of Lt. Colonel. He was a retired engineer with the U.S. Forestry Service after 32 years of service. He was a graduate of the University of Connecticut. He was a member of the Willimatic Connecticut Masonic Lodge, Cleveland Elks Club, V.F.W. and the American Legion, Reserve Officers Association. Mr. Jacobs was the son of the late Elmer Raymond Jacobs, Sr. and Grace Maude Popple Jacobs and was also preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte Elaine Brooks Jacobs who passed away in 1988 and his sisters, Ella Douda and Helen Rice. He is survived by his three children: Raymond Jacobs, Richard Jacobs and Robin Ownby and husband John Ownby all of Cleveland; three grandchildren: Chris Ownby and wife Lindsey Ownby of Smyrna, TN, Brian Ownby of Murfreesboro, TN and Sarah Mullis and husband Josh Mullis of Cleveland; one great grandson, Isaac Ownby; three nephews also survive. A graveside service will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 30, 2010 at Hilcrest Memorial Gardens with Dr. Jay McCluskey officiating and also with military honors. A white dove release ceremony will conclude the service. Raymond Jacobs, Richard Jacobs, John Ownby, Chris Ownby, Brian Ownby and Josh Mullis serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday, October 29, 2010 at Ralph Buckner Funeral Home.
