Larry “Mickey” Johnson, 67, a resident of Charleston, passed away Friday, January 29, 2010 at his home. He was a loving husband, son, father, grandfather and brother. Master Chief Johnson retired a “Salty Sailor” after serving 24 years in the United States Navy. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, Operation Desert Shield and Operation Desert Storm. During his time in the Navy he was highly decorated for his service to his country. He was preceded in death by his father, the Reverend Buford Johnson. He is survived by his beloved wife of 34 years, Susan Johnson of Charleston and formerly of Jacksonville, FL; son, Morgan Johnson and wife, Kristi of Cleveland; his beloved granddaughters, Autumn and Alli Johnson; mother, Betty Johnson of Cleveland; brother, Jerry Johnson and wife, Elsie of Cleveland; niece, Jennifer Johnson; uncle, T. Roy Thaxston; sisters-in-law, Kathleen Spears and husband, Rusty and Frances Jones; and special friend, Linda Massey. A memorial service will be conducted Monday, February 1, 2010 at 6:00 p.m. in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home with Pastor Kevin Mendel officiating. Full military honors will be held during the service. The family will receive friends on Monday, from 5:00 – 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home prior to the service.
