Bill Ray Roberts, 81, a resident of Cleveland, TN and formerly of Morehead, KY, passed away Wednesday, July 28, 2010 at the family residence. He attended the First Christian Disciples of Christ Church in Cleveland, TN. He was a lifetime educator for 37 years on every level from one room school house to college level. He retired from Cleveland State Community College in 1989. During his younger days he spent his summer months traveling and working in a variety of places and enjoyed telling his fascinating adventures. He also enjoyed writing poetry and telling jokes. He was born November 1, 1928 in Rowan County, Kentucky, son of the late Morton and Hester Roberts. Bill is survived by his wife, Alice Roberts of Cleveland; one son, Brent Morton Roberts of Cleveland, TN; two daughters: Joyce Morris and Debbie Hirst both of Salisbury, NC; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren. Other survivors include two sisters: Virginia Reynolds of Frankfort, KY and Elizabeth Thomas of Seymour, IN, as well as several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, August 1, 2010 with interment following at Brown Cemetery in Morehead, KY. The family requests that memorials be made to St. Jude Children?s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, August 7, 2010 at the First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ in Cleveland.
