Lester D Hale

May 6, 1923 — January 18, 2015

Lester D. Hale, 91, of Ocoee, passed away Sunday, January 18, 2015 at his home.  He was a member of Sequatchie Valley Church of Christ.  He was a retired beef cattle farmer.  Mr. Hale was a veteran of the United States Army.  In World War II he was at Utah Beach in the Normandy Invasion, where he was in Patton’s 3rd Army.  He was severely wounded in combat and later received a Purple Heart for his war injuries.

 He was preceded in death by his wife, Myrtle Hale; parents, Harry and Stella Smith Hale and two brothers and one sister.

Survivors include his children, Daniel David Hale and wife, Louise of Ocoee and Vonnie Brock of Tullahoma; seven grandchildren, Tim Ogle, Rex Ogle, David Hale, Tracy Goldsmith, Nickey Simmons, Michael Simmons and Leslie Brock; several great-grandchildren and one brother, Herbert Hale of Pikeville and sister, Virginia Lecroy of Thompson , GA; several nieces and nephews also survive. 

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 21, 2015 in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home with Ministers Wayne Miller and Doyle Parton officiating. Entombment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens with Military Honors. Tim Ogle, Rex Ogle, John Deck, Jerry Skelton, Mark Mills, Ralph Muller, and Jason Bigham will serve as pallbearers.  

 His family will receive friends from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 20, 2015 at the funeral home.

 The family suggests that memorials be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O .Box 22718 Oklahoma City, OK 73123-1718.
