Kathleen Smith

September 20, 1930 — March 15, 2015

Kathleen “Kitty” Marie Dawson Smith, 84, a resident of Cleveland, passed away Sunday, March 15, 2015 at the family residence.  She was a member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church where she was involved in Spice of Life Seniors Group and was also active in her Sunday school class.  She was involved in a Day Care as a foster grandparent.

 She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.

 Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Preston Smith; parents, Carl Dawson and Roberta Ruth Grisby Dawson and siblings, Hubert Dawson, Louise Marlow and Anna Lee Willis.

 She is survived by her five children:  Linda Cox and husband, Jimmy of Rock Springs, GA, Michael Howard and wife, Shelley of Macon, GA, Kathleen Melvin of Cleveland, James Smith and wife, Monica of Ft. Oglethorpe, GA, and Denise McConnell and husband, Mike of Cleveland; 11 grandchildren, Wyatt Smith, Sean Melvin, Whitney Sanders, Preston Smith, Julie Smith, Elliott Smith, Chloe McConnell, Eli McConnell, Taylor McConnell, Jamie Chambers and Tiffany Richards; six great-grandchildren, Caitlyn Durham, Jarrett Chambers, Jaxon Chambers, Lucas Richards, Ashlyn Richards and Samuel Sanders; two great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Francis Benesh; several nieces and nephews also survive.

 Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 18, 2015 in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home.  Interment will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens with grandchildren serving as pallbearers.

 The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 17, 2015 at the funeral home.

 The family requests that memorials be made to the American Cancer Society, 6221 Shallowford Road, Chattanooga, TN 37421.
