Billy Eugene Deal, 84, of Old Fort passed away on January 2, 2016.
A lifelong resident of the Old Fort area, he served as a tank gunner in the United States Army after World War 2. He spent most of his working life as a farmer, and was an accomplished fiddle player with many gospel and bluegrass bands. Most notably, he once opened for the famous "Bill Monroe" when playing for "The Grass Cutters". Later he toured with his wife, Mearl, in her gospel trio, "The Harmonettes" as a musician and bus driver.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Mearl Deal; son, Larry Deal; parents, Roy and Taudy Deal.
He is survived by his loving daughter, Trilba (Rick) and grandson, Talian (Christyn) all of Old Fort.
The family will have a graveside service for family and friends on Tuesday at 3 PM at Sumach Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Chatsworth, GA with Reverend Chuck Clark, Pastor David Disney and Talian L. Ross officiating. Pallbearers will be James Hood, David Disney, Morris Shields, Gary Rogers, Chris Rogers, and Jessie “Buck” Wheat. A white dove release ceremony will conclude the service.
Ralph Buckner Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of the arrangements.
