Junior Allen Collins, 81, passed away Wednesday, January 27, 2016 in a local hospital. A former resident of Ft. Meade, Florida, he moved to Cleveland eight years ago and he and his wife became members of First Baptist Church. A graduate of Florida State University, he served his country in the United States Army and then became an art teacher. Always active in his community, he was a former president of the Rotary Club in Ft. Meade and a founding member of the R.O.M.E.O Club (Retired Old Men Eating Out) in Cleveland. He was a sport car enthusiast and loved photography, but teaching art was his passion.
Mr. Collins was the son of the late Walter Louallen Collins and Willie Odessa Still Collins and was also preceded in death by his son, Wesley Howard Collins.
He is survived by his wife, Martha Gene “Genie” Collins of Cleveland; children: Wade Alan Collins and Tara of Lawrenceville, GA, Lauretta Cook and Christopher of Saluda, NC, John C. Collins of Buford, GA, and Amy E. Hazleton and Tate of Cleveland, TN and adopted daughter, Kimberley Collins; grandchildren: Caleb Collins, Clark Collins, Hunt Collins, Cagney Collins, Maggie Johnson, Matthew Grainger, Fitzhugh Sthreshley, Tabitha Collins, Justin Everett, Sam Hazleton, Shelby Hazleton; great grandchildren: Liam Duncan Collins and Adia Collins; two sisters: Annette Wilson and Wylene Lockhart.
Celebration of Life services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 30, 2016 at First Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Lee Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Friday, January 29, 2016 at the funeral home and also on Saturday from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the church prior to the service.
