Hilda Marie Lawson

Hilda Marie Elrod Lawson, 87, passed away April 14, 2016 following a lengthy illness at home.

Born in 1929 in Denora, PA she grew up in the Dalton, GA Good Hope community and was married in 1944 to Franklin William Lawson. They moved to Cleveland following World War II in 1945. A member of Westwood Baptist Church since 1965, she was active as a Sunday School teacher, WMU, and served on the Decorating Committee. Known For her zest for life and energetic strong will personality she enjoyed gardening, interior design, flower arranging, antique collecting, jewelry collecting and was an avid shopper. She was a proud parent and grandparent and was especially proud of her grandchildren and did an extra job of spoiling them the right way with her love.

A born again Christian since age seven she was a woman of strong faith and cherished her family and friends. One special friendship of over 50 years was with Joyce King of Cleveland. Although Joyce was a friend she was more like a sister to her, a special bond of faith and companionship that will be missed.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Franklin William Lawson (1998), grandson, Gavin Lawson (1986), her parents, Oscar and Addie Elrod and her older siblings, Betchal and Johnny Elrod and Ruby Williams.

She is survived by two sons, Randall Lawson and Grayland (Sara) Lawson of Cleveland as well as four grandchildren, Alyssa Lawson (21), Braden and Barrett Lawson (17) and Kaila Tabor (27).

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, April 17, 2016 in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home with Reverend Jim Caywood officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens with her nephews, Neal Pippenger, Johnny Pippenger, Charles Lawson and family friend, Wayne Poole serving as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Saturday, April 16, 2016 at the funeral home.
