Edward Joseph Holmes

Edward Joseph Holmes, 70, a resident of Cleveland, passed away Monday, April 25, 2016 at the family residence. He was a former resident of Fayetteville, TN. He was a member of Chestuee United Methodist Church.

He was loved by everyone, a hard worker and extremely generous. He lived by the motto: “Random acts of kindness”- always ready to help and give to others. He retired from AT&T and one of the original pioneers in the cellular industry. He was a veteran of the United States Navy serving 6 years and 5 months.

Mr. Holmes was the son of the late Jack Jaral and Mary Winnifred McKnight Jaral.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Holmes of Cleveland; five children: Lisa Gish and husband, Troy of Henderson, KY; Shannon Ruble Long and husband, John of Oak Grove; IL; Shawn Holmes and wife, Sherry of Cleveland; John “J.P.” Denney and girlfriend, Shawna Farmer; and Dante Denney all of Cleveland; 8 grandchildren: Katie Roark, Brianna Smitko, Nick Smitko, Colleen Long, Jack Long, Blake Hinton, Loren Winters and Kristen Winters; one great grandchild, Logan Hinton; four sisters, Joanne Norris of Gideon, MO, Barbara and Larry Camp of North Fort Myers, Florida, Susan Grande of North Fort Myers, Florida, and Jackie Jacobson; one brother, Billy Holmes of Semi Valley, CA; several nieces and nephews also survive.

A memorial service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 30, 2016 at the Benton United Methodist Church with Reverend John Oldham officiating.

The family suggests memorials be made to the Benton United Methodist Church Prayer Garden, 135 Highland Drive, Benton, TN 37307.
