Barbara Beard Kuhns, 90, of Cleveland, TN, went home to be with the Lord Wednesday morning, August 31, 2016.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Maurice Glenwood Beard and Dorothy Charlesworth Beard; her husband, Howard Hill Kuhns, Jr. and her daughter, Jane Elizabeth Kuhns.
Mrs. Kuhns was born on February 15, 1926 in Altoona Pennsylvania. She is a graduate of Edgewood High School and attended Carnegie Tech. She married Howard Kuhns on December 27, 1947, and they were married for 67 years. Barbara, Howard and first son, Jim moved from Uniontown, PA to Cleveland in 1955.
Barbara Kuhns was a woman who loved God and who lived out her Christian faith in all areas of her life. She will long be remembered for her kind smile, generous spirit and Godly example. Barbara was a devoted mother who loved her family. She loved to make memories and expressed them both in writing and scrapbooking. She loved to write about her experiences, and her writings were an inspiration to her family and friends.
Mrs. Kuhns was a member of First Baptist Church for over 30 years where she was a sanctuary choir member, participated in several women's ministries and Bible studies, and assisted her late husband Howard as a Sunday School teacher. For several years they had taught a Sunday School class for First Baptist at Garden Plaza of Cleveland until early 2015.
Mrs. Kuhns is survived by her sister Nancy Mallonee and husband Tom of Irvine, CA; sister-in-law, Betty Haering of Flint, MI; sons, Jim Kuhns of Melbourne, Australia; Ron Kuhns and wife Patti of Ooltewah, TN and Tim Kuhns and wife Cherie of Hixson, TN; eight grandchildren, Katie Kuhns of Clinton Township, MI, Jon Kuhns and wife Lorna of Okinawa, Japan, Rebecca Kuhns of Norfolk, VA, David Kuhns and wife Dena of Kansas City, MO, Jenni Evans and husband Brian of Rome, Italy, Marcus Kuhns and wife Callie of Fort Worth, TX, Kari Kuhns of Hixson, TN and Wesley Kuhns of Hixson, TN; three great-grandchildren, Poppy Ann Moore of Clinton Township, MI, Sebastian Szymanski of Norfolk, VA and Evalyn Kuhns of Kansas City, MO; and several nephews and nieces.
The remembrance of life service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 3, in the chapel of the Ralph Buckner Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. on Friday, September 2, at the Ralph Buckner Funeral Home, who has charge of the arrangements.
