Jeannie Faye Coile

December 4, 1950 — July 9, 2017

Jeannie Faye Coile, a lifelong resident of Cleveland, died on Sunday, July 9, 2017.  She was born on December 4, 1950, the first child of Mack and Lillian Crittenden Coile.  She gave her heart to the Lord at a young age and continued to serve Him all of her life.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mack and Lillian Coile; her grandparents, W.C. and Leota Coile, and Bill and Rachel Crittenden; and many aunts and uncles.

She is survived by her brother, David (Cathy) Coile; sisters, Janet (Doug) Bunch, Teresa (Christopher) Metaxes, Lonna (Glen) Gattenby, and Donna (Michael) Marshall; her nieces and nephews, Wendy (Kryss) Barick, Jennifer (Chad) Evett, April (Tom) Wilson, Nicolas (Linda) Coile, Tiffany (Angela) Bunch, Alexander Metaxes, Ben “Zayn” Bunch, and Andrew Marshall; great niece and nephews, Chase and Caleb Evett, Alden Coile, and Vivian Celeste Coile; her aunt, Patricia Crabtree; and uncles, Rev. William Coile, and Wallace Coile; and a host of cousins.

Jeannie knew from the age of 5 years old what she wanted to be when she grew up.  She started first grade at Mayfield School and her teacher was Miss Annette, who had a profound impact on her from the first day.  She came home and announced to her parents that she was going to be a school teacher just like Miss Annette.  She started striving for her dream immediately.  She always excelled in school, and tutored fellow students and family who had difficulties in any subject.  One family member said they would never have completed school without her help.

Being the oldest of 6 children she was a second mother to her younger siblings.  She had to help a lot with chores, but nothing deterred her from her dream of being a school teacher.  When her twin sisters were born they were very ill at times and had to have around the clock care.  Jeannie took the night shift.  Many nights she would rock her sisters all night long, with one on each shoulder, to make sure they could breathe properly.  She would go to school the next day, ace every test or project, and then go to work at her part time job.  She was voted most studious at Cleveland High School, where she graduated with top honors.  She continued to work her part time jobs at Dooley’s Ice Cream Parlor, then Kay’s Kastle, and Kentucky Fried Chicken.  She could run the place, in the absence of the owners, and they trusted her because she was wise and mature beyond her years.  A small scholarship from her father’s work and her part time jobs paid for her college.  She graduated from Lee College (Lee University) in 3 ½ years Cum Laude.  She got a job right away and that began a 30 year teaching career.  She became a level 3 Career Ladder Teacher and spent a year travelling the state evaluating other teachers.  She taught the GED program for several years and was told by many students that she encouraged and helped them in a way they had never been helped before.  She retired from teaching due to health issues in 2001.

Her teaching wasn’t just in the classroom.  She taught Children’s church at North Cleveland Church of God for many years, and Sunday school classes at East Cleveland Church of God and Westwood Baptist.  She was an excellent student of God’s Word and loved sharing it with others.  Although she was unable to go to church as much, as her health continued to decline, she was able to attend church where her brother-in-law, Glen Gattenby, pastored this past Easter.  She had on one of her signature hats, which she loved wearing to church.

A memorial service will be conducted at 7:00 pm Wednesday, July 12, 2017 in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home.  A bagpipe and white dove release ceremony will conclude the service.

The family will receive friends 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm Wednesday at the funeral home.
